My experience about first podcast

what I learned:
I can tell that I learned a lot doing this assignment, first, the way to use the camera. Second, how to shoot. That was a completely new experience, although I did try to shoot before, but only now I realized how many mistakes I did before (e.g. choosing the scene, background). Understanding such things as not shooting while zooming, shooting for editing, not having extremely long shots (in time sense).

I guess the reading of the video material helped me a lot to understand basic rules. Nevertheless I did a lot while shooting for his project: things like - light. In some shots I did not realize how light can change the scene entirely, I saw it only when I was working in the Imovie.

I found several functions in Imovie as very useful: being able to extract the sound from the clip and also being able to add audio to the clips (with music it is so much better).
Now I feel much more comfortable working with Imovie, I am sure that after completing few more projects my work will improve tremendously.
Work on this first project also motivated me to look more in depth into how the video has to be shot, as well as into basic rules of video and photo images.

In conclusion, I would say that it was a great learning experience - it moved me beyond my comfortable zone - just writing papers - and provided me with an opportunity to explore something entirely new!

Thank you very much for instructions and guidance!

I enjoyed the podcast and thought your daughter was so cute. I wanted to be able to see the map of Russia better, but because of the small screen size and how far out the camera was zoomed, it was very difficult to see. I also liked the music you used in the podcast and that you got your husband to participate in it. I look forward to learning how to cook Russian food.

Svetlana, I think that your first podcast was very informative about Russian and its highlights. For your next two podcasts I would recommend that you be on the camera more than your husband. He is a very knowledgeable speaker and looks comfortable on camera but I felt that he was on the video more than you were. I say this because I think the class would like to get to know more about you. Also towards the end of you video the music bleeds into the video while your husband was talking and it was hard to understand what he was saying, so in the future you might want to fade the song when someone starts speaking on camera. I liked your transitions but some of them faded very quickly towards the end of what you were saying, you can adjust where the transition begins and ends in iMovie. If you need any help with your podcasts I would be happy to help you out in the future in class if you want. The close-ups of the things your husband was talking about, like the books and the art was good because it gives the viewer a closer look at what he is talking about rather than trying to make out images from a far. I’m looking forward to seeing what your next two podcasts are going to be over since I have no idea what traditional Russian cuisine is and I would like to see what you are going to be teaching us, the viewer, how to make.

Scott Smith.

I think this was a great first podcast and I have to agree your daughter is adorable. Like Scott said when you had music playing over your husband talking it was difficult to understand him, so that is something to remember for the future. Also the transitions did at times cut off what you were saying, so leaving a bit more time might be good. Overall it was a great job, just a few things that could use a slight improvement. I look forward to your future podcasts.

Svetlana, I really enjoyed your first podcast. In the beginning, I liked how you were straight forward with your answers and then went in to showing us more about you and your family. I think if you had moved a little bit closer to the window though you might have been more well lit. Window light can be a very beautiful and simple thing. I also agree with Scott about how I would like to see more of you on camera. I found the information your husband shared was very informative, I would like to see more of you and get to know more about you. The transitions and fades were good, however you might try more of a variety. It might make your next podcast "pop" that much more. Again, I also agree with Scott and Deidra regarding the part where your husband is talking and the music is still high, it makes it a little hard to understand what he is saying. Look forward to your next podcast about Russian cuisine and also to reading some of your final research paper.

Svetlana, you faded off a bit in one of the transitions. The colors work well in the intro. You might zoom in on the map a bit. Be careful with your background music. The music is too loud during the section on the Matrushkas (sp?). You should have addressed your research a bit more, though the information was indeed interesting. Watch for background noise (though I fully appreciate the challenge of shooting video with a kiddo in the house).
